Take Al Madinah Al Madinah Al Munawarah Road/Route 271 for 15 kilometres and you’ll arrive in downtown Jeddah.Jeddah is considered Saudi Arabia’s commercial capital, but it’s also the most relaxed city in the entire kingdom. Most people come here to view the city’s old coral architecture, especially in the Al-Balad district. Fishermen used to fish here 2,500 years ago, and many of the homes date back to this time.
Other must-see attractions include the King Fahd Water Spring and the Floating Mosque, perched atop the Red Sea at the northern end of Corniche Road. History buffs should visit the Bab Medina Gate – one of the original city gates that formed part of the wall surrounding the ancient municipal. It’s made of limestone and embedded with pearls.
The whole way down Corniche Road – stretching along the waterfront for more than 60km – are beautiful sandy beaches and prime diving and snorkelling spots.
Jeddah also boasts a host of shopping options, with malls, boutiques and souks to wander through. Tahlia Street is where you’ll find all the designer labels, while Hira Street is where the locals hang out.
