Where to go from Seville Airport
Pick up a hire car at Seville Airport and enjoy the flexibility of exploring this magical Andalusian city and the open road beyond. From the airport it’s only a 15-minute drive to embrace the bustling tapas bars, striking architecture and historical attractions of this quintessentially Spanish city.
Seville is also a natural starting point for a stunning road trip through Spain’s southern regions. From the city limits, head northeast up the A4 to tour Cordoba’s world-famous Heritage site, the Mezquita-Cathedral, or directly south towards Cadiz to then meander at your own pace along the smaller coastal roads of the Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light). This area located between Cadiz and Huelva is home to wide sandy beaches, the fishing villages of Tarifa and Zahara de los Atunes, and protected parks such as the Donana Nature Reserve.
Continuing east will bring you first to the culturally rich city of Malaga, and beyond that to the desert-like plains of Almeria where many spaghetti westerns were filmed. Alternatively, double back from Malaga inland to cruise through the distinctive “pueblos blancos” - the white villages of Andalusia – that showcase some of Spain’s prettiest architecture.
Spain’s vast, epic landscape is perfect for road trips. Rent a car from Avis and enjoy your next road trip adventure at your own pace.
What to do in Seville
One of the largest historical centres in Europe, Seville is only a 20-minute drive via the A-4 and Avenue de Kansas City from the airport. This lively city has plenty to offer, including numerous restaurants, a buzzing nightlife and many historic sites.
Seville’s spectacular cathedral, officially the largest in the world, is a popular attraction. Also worth visiting is the Barrio Santa Cruz – the old Jewish Quarter opposite the cathedral. This is known as the historic heart of Seville and peppered with shops, restaurants and cosy cafes.
Other treasures include the Royal Palace (the Alcazar of Seville). This promises an interesting day trip, as it is in fact a collection of several palaces – each representing an eclectic combination of different religious influences and architectural styles.
Opposite Maria Luisa Park, Plaza de España is ranked among the city’s top attractions. This delightful square, decorated with ornate tiles, fountains and baroque arcades, was originally built for the 1929 Ibero-American exhibition and remains a popular draw for both locals and visitors.
There are also numerous restaurants in the area for those wishing to taste Spanish gastronomy at its finest.
To sample the local nightlife, head to Calle Betis – an impressive waterfront area home to a popular strip of pubs, trendy bars, cafes and restaurants.
From the comfort of your rental car, Seville and other Andalusian gems are easily explored at your own pace.
