Aviles

Just a 20-minute drive from Oviedo Asturias Airport (via the N-632) is Aviles. This charming city has lots to offer, with shady squares, a selection of shops and countless options for sampling the local gastronomy. It’s also home to Centro Niemeyer, a fascinating cultural arts centre. Its namesake, Oscar Niemeyer, designed the striking modernist exterior. The centre has four sections including an exhibition space, observation tower and concert hall, as well as a film centre and cafe.

Gijon

Take the A-8 from Oviedo Asturias Airport and within 30 minutes you’ll arrive in the city of Gijon. Located on the shores of the Cantabrian sea, there’s a beach to enjoy and a host of historic and cultural things to see and do. As well as an attractive marina, there are a number of buildings worth checking out in Plaza del Marques, including the Collegiate Church of San Juan Bautista and the Palace of Revillagigedo. Drive via the N-634 for just over 90 minutes to admire the spectacular scenery of Picos de Europa National Park. With impressive mountain views, crystal clear lakes and verdant plant life, it’s the perfect place for a picnic and invigorating hike.
