Haro

In terms of wine production, Haro is probably the most famous town in the region. If you’re a wine aficionado, it’s a must-visit. As one of the oldest wineries in Spain, Bodegas Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia is a particularly popular place to stop. Little about it has changed since the 19th century. Accelerate just 10km east of Haro and you’ll come across Dinastía Vivanco – a fascinating private museum that traces the history of wine in the region. Haro is less than a 40-minute drive from Logrono.

Ezcaray

Just 65km from Logrono is another jewel of the La Rioja region: Ezcaray. This village is home to less than 2,000 people. A visit here allows you to experience a truly local way of life. Ezcaray is well known for its handcrafted textiles, so don’t leave before making a purchase in one of the many craft shops. The village even has a Michelin-starred restaurant, El Portal, where delicious local fare is served.

Logrono’s recently renovated train station is the ideal gateway to the city. Set right in its heart, you’re free to drive anywhere in the city in a matter of minutes.

The central hub of activity in Logrono is Calle Laurel. On pleasant evenings, you’ll see groups of people eating and chatting to each other around large outdoor tables. Take a seat and have a relaxing evening trying the local tapas.

The cafe and dining culture in Logrono also spills out into the parks. Some of the most popular green spaces in the city, which also house a fine selection of cafes, include Espolon and Plaza Primero de Mayo. The cafes stay open in the evenings too, so you can bask in the setting sun after exploring the city all day, surrounded by natural beauty.

For something a little more active, strap on some comfortable shoes and hike to the top of Monte Cantabria, which is a hill with a 120m cliff face. From here, you’ll have an incredible view across all of Logrono. History fans will also be interested to know that the hill is the site of a pre-roman Celt-Iberian settlement, dating back to the 4th century BC.
