Puerto de Santiago

This quaint fishing village, which lies on the west coast of the island, is just a 40-minute drive from Playa de las Americas. The beach here, Playa de la Arena, is a striking attraction as it’s made of soft black sand. There are a few restaurants by the beach which serve fresh seafood lunches, and a small fishing museum, which gives a great insight into the villagers’ traditional way of life.

Los Gigantes

Just ten minutes’ drive further north of Puerto de Santiago is Los Gigantes, a beach destination that’s as popular with locals as it is with tourists. The black-sand beach lies beneath impressively tall cliffs, the perfect spot for a sunset stroll. There’s also a public outdoor pool in the town with sun loungers for those who prefer to avoid the waves. The best way to spend an evening in this part of the island is a wander around the picturesque harbour before stopping for a coffee or a Canarian meal in one of the small restaurants.
