Girona

Once a strong Jewish centre of study, Girona has undergone many sieges and attacks over the past centuries. Its fortifications and the Girona Cathedral are main sights, but be sure to see the distinctive riverfront houses, decorated in vibrant colours while you’re here.

Sitges

Dubbed the St Tropez of Spain, this charming seaside town is one of the most popular excursions from Barcelona. Just a 45-minute drive south of the city on the C-32, it’s easy to reach in your hire car. It’s especially popular among LGBT travellers who come for the annual Barcelona Carnival in February, while movie buffs are drawn by its film festival. Sitges also boasts impeccable sandy beaches for those who want to soak up the sun.
