If you want to discover a lesser-known part of the Azores, the island of Faial is the perfect place for a holiday. You can fly in to Horta Airport from Lisbon or one of the neighbouring islands, then pick up your rental car and set off on an adventure.

The Caldeira do Cabeço Gordo is one of the main landmarks of Faial. Situated in the center of the island, it measures 2 kilometres in diameter and 400 metres in depth, making it one of the most impressive crater of the Azores. You can park near the summit and complete the 8 kilometre walking route around the rim of the crater.
