Beyond Gdansk there are a huge number of fascinating attractions to explore, all easily reached by car.
Kashubian Landscape Park
Travel along the DW211 for an hour from Gdansk International Airport to reach this beautiful park, famous for its flora, fauna and a series of glacial lakes. These large lagoons are connected to one another by rivers. There are also nature trails that are frequented by hikers, cyclists and horse riders. This is the perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.
Malbork Castle
Perched on the banks of the Nogat river, Malbork Castle was originally built by the Teutonic Knights. Having been damaged numerous times during its history, the fortress has undergone multiple restorations. This enormous UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the world’s largest castles and houses a museum telling the story of its past. Located just under an hour’s drive from the airport, Malbork Castle is a must-see.
Krynica Morska
Drive just over an hour from Gdansk International Airport (via S7 and DW501) and you’ll arrive in Krynica Morska. Blink and you might miss it; this is the smallest town in Poland. Sitting on a coastal spit of land, the sun, sea and sand draw visitors from far and wide. The town is surrounded by lush forests of oak, beech and aspen, providing a quiet and truly relaxing setting.

Plan your journey from Gdansk International Airport
Gdansk is a port city that celebrates its history and vibrant culture through art, music and museums.
The city was greatly damaged during the Second World War and then rebuilt. Brightly coloured building facades and distinctive architecture draw millions of people every year. The Long Lane features the city’s most impressive buildings, as well as a number of fascinating museums, such as the Historical Museum of Gdańsk and Uphagen House – an 18th century home containing beautiful pieces of furniture from the same period.
Wander through the Długi Targ (the Long Market), one of the city’s most famous attractions, to follow a procession route once used by Polish kings and queens. Along the route you’ll come across the Amber Museum, located in the medieval foregate. In this part of the world, amber is known as ‘Baltic Gold’.
The Neptune Fountain – a symbol of Gdansk – is nearby. It’s said to have once flowed with the town’s trademark Goldwasser, a local tipple that’s peppered with gold flakes.
Gdansk is full of things to see and do, so pick up your Avis hire car and start touring the city.
