How to get from Tivat Airport to the centre of Tivat by car
To drive to the centre of Tivat from Tivat Airport just head west joining a short section of the famous Adriatic Highway or Jadranska Magistrala. This is the European Route E65 which traces the shoreline through Croatia, Bosnia Herzogovina and Montenegro. After just 3.5km on the E65, a trip of around 5min, you turn off towards the port and into the centre of town.

For luxury and sophistication don’t miss Tivat’s Porto Montenegro, the marina in the heart of the Bay of Kotor renowned for its super-yachts, high end restaurants and boutique shopping.
For a more low-key quayside setting, head to the Pine Waterfront, filled with cafes and bars and popular with with locals. To soak up some of the history of the port, stop by the Maritime Heritage Museum and for a fully immersive experience take to the water yourself on a paddle-board or kayak.

Tivat International Airport is a great destination if you are planning to explore the beautiful Bay of Kotor and beyond. The stunning Islet, Our Lady of the Rocks is just 30min drive from Tivat along the E65 Adriatic Highway.
Budva
Budva just a 30min drive south from Tivat along the E65 Highway. The stone-walled old town of Budva is a must see on a trip to coastal Montenegro.
Kotor
Kotor is a short 15min road trip north-east along the Jadranska Magistrala. The stunning ancient fortified town of Kotor is a UNESCO-heritage site and regarded as the jewel in the crown of the Dalmatian coast.
Virpazar
A trip south of around 70km and just over an hour along the E65/E80 takes you along the coast from Tivat and then inland to the small town of Virpazar on the shores of Lake Skadar. Surrounded by mountains, this is a truly scenic spot and well as exploring pretty Virpazar with its stone bridge there are watersports at the Lake Skadar Visitor Centre.

Tips for driving in Tivat
If you have not driven in this part of the world before, we’d advise checking the road rules for driving in Montenegro before you set off. Be aware that as elsewhere in mainland Europe, you’ll be driving on the right-hand side of the road and overtaking on the left and using dipped headlights at all times. Everyone in the car must wear a seat belt and use of mobile phones without hands-free kit at the wheel is prohibited. You have to be 21 to rent a car in Montenegro.

Free on-street parking is available in Tivat but as visitor numbers grow, the Government is opening more paid parking areas. You can pay for parking via SMS or by buying a ticket from a kiosk nearby.
