From the Avis Qawra-Buġibba pick-up point, you’re just a 10-minute drive (via Triq Gulju) from Buġibba, a modern tourist destination with an attractive promenade, Blue Flag beach and numerous opportunities for water sports.The pretty cobbled main square is the perfect place to people watch and enjoy a spot of lunch. Historic Valletta is just a 30-minute drive (via Triq Is-Salina) from Avis Qawra-Buġibba and an absolute must-see. Sights are plentiful, but St John’s Co-Cathedral is a good place to start. Built between 1573 and 1577, it’s an imposing building. Inside you’ll discover treasures such as Caravaggio’s famous painting: The Beheading of Saint John The Baptist. If you’re into the arts, take in a show at the 18th-century Manoel Theatre, which hosts performances by Malta’s National Theatre and National Orchestra. Other city attractions include the National Museum of Archaeology, City Gate and Freedom Square.
Popeye Village Fun Park
If you have children to amuse, drive for 15 minutes from Avis Qawra-Buġibba (via St Paul’s Bay Bypass) to Popeye Village Fun Park. Once used as the film set for the 1980’s film Popeye, starring Robin Williams, it’s been transformed into one of the island’s top theme parks. A variety of fun attractions await, including boat rides, water trampolines and a Popeye Comic Museum.
