How to get from Avis at Salerno Station to the centre of Salerno by car
From our Avis office at Salerno Station it’s just an 8min (1.6km) drive into the heart of Salerno. Head back towards the station and turn left onto Tirrena Inferiore taking a right turn onto Via Santi Martiri Salernitani after 240m. Continue on Via Dalmazia taking Via Paolo de Granita before arriving at Via del Carmine in the centre of Salerno.
Things to do in Salerno
Although within easy reach of the famous and justifiably popular Amalfi Coast, Salerno is a hit with travellers seeking a tranquil and authentic Southern Italian experience. For historic siteon’t miss Salerno’s Duomo (Cathedral) or the medieval Arrechi Castle. Take a walk through the Minerva botanical gardens and when the sun is setting, stroll along the Promenade Trieste and stop off in one of the many bars and cafes in the harbour area.
Recommended day trips from Salerno Station
As well as great drives along the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii, there are plenty of exciting road trips to plan from Salerno Station with your Avis hire car.
Head for Naples a 45min drive up the E45 coast road to enjoy the city’s rich history and culture as well as sampling the best pizza in the world. Along the way, stop off at Herculaneum the Roman neighbour to Pompeii also buried under volcanic ash when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79AD.
Alternatively drive south along the Gulf of Salerno for around 45min to reach the ruins of the ancient Greek temple at Paestum and stop off at one of the region’s farms producing the famous cheese of the area, Buffalo Mozzarella.

Be aware that Salerno, like many Italian cities, has a Limited Traffic Zone (Zona Traffico Limitato) to reduce pollution and congestion. In ZTLs only local residents or permitted vehicles have access at certain hours so check your route before you drive. It’s worth avoiding the rush hour around major cities such as Naples.
