Plan your journey from Frankfurt Train Station
Your Avis pick-up point is located at the main train station in the city centre. From here, all of Frankfurt is easily accessible. As Germany’s fifth largest city, there’s plenty to experience here.
Start by exploring the old city, “Römerberg”, featuring 15th and 16th century buildings that were preserved or rebuilt after World War II. The gothic Frankfurt Cathedral is located in this neighbourhood and was where emperors of the Holy Roman Empire were crowned for over 200 years.
The more modern area of Hauptwache is home to the city’s main shopping district and public squares. The baroque period building that lent its name to the district, once a militia building, is now a cafe. Find a bit of culture in one of the many museums featuring art, architecture, film and Jewish history. The Städel Museum, exhibiting art from the Middle Ages through to the present, is a top pick. To fully appreciate the city’s modern edge, stroll its bridges at night to catch stunning views of the illuminated skyline.
Frankfurt’s cuisine is famed for its apple cider, almond biscuits, plus a special herb green sauce used as a local spread on eggs and potatoes. Its multicultural population means you’ll find a wide variety of restaurants and dishes around the city.
