St-Gervais-Les-Bains is an 11-minute drive from the St Gervais Train Station via the D902. Unlike other mountain resort towns, this one is occupied year-round and is full of history and traditional French charm. In the winter, snow sports are the main draw: skiing, snowboarding, cross-country, and more. Many companies cater entirely to ski vacations.In the summer months, other alpine activities like mountain biking and hiking are popular. One of the more famous walks starts in Combloux and ends in Les Contamines, taking you to Baroque chapels and churches along the way. From Saint-Gervais-Les-Bains, drive 20 minutes via the D909 and arrive in Megève. This is another small ski-resort town, set in the French Alps near Mont Blanc. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, people come here for curling competitions, snowshoeing, and dog sledding. In the summer, Megève is a haven for golfers. If you’re coming to just enjoy the view, however, you won’t be disappointed.
Geneva
Feel like taking a day trip to Switzerland? Geneva is just an hour from Saint-Gervais-Les-Bains on the A40, and is well worth the trip. Geneva is one of Europe’s most cosmopolitan cities, and is renowned for its shopping offering. Take in the views of Lake Geneva, the largest lake in Europe, from the promenade, as well as its giant fountain. Be sure to stop in at one of the city’s many chocolate shops and feast on international cuisine while you’re here. You’ll also find plenty of luxury jewellers in the city.
Chamonix
Chamonix is a 30-minute drive from Saint-Gervais-Les-Bains via the N205. Chamonix is located on Mont-Blanc, one of the most famous mountains in the French Alps, and part of the town is actually on the summit. It’s also one of the oldest ski resorts in France. While Chamonix is predominately a winter ski town, it’s also extremely popular for mountain climbers in the summer months. Regardless of when you visit, the scenery here is worth incredible.
