Plan your journey from Auray Train Station
A short drive from the train station brings you right into Auray town centre, where there’s much to see and do. This attractive destination is split into two main parts: the Saint-Goustan port district on the banks of the river Auray, and the historical centre, perched on a hilltop. Both of these areas are worth exploring.
Sights in the upper quarter include old churches, such as the Church of Saint-Gildas. Rue du Château is a pleasant cobbled street lined with art galleries. Amazing views over the river can also be appreciated around here.
Saint-Goustan originated as a fishing port during the 17th century and remnants from this period can still be seen today. The attractive quays are lined with colourful boats and people often take a scenic stroll around here. One of the quays, Quai Benjamin Franklin, was named after the American President. Franklin arrived in the town in 1776, en route to Paris, to ask for support with the American War of Independence.
For a bustling atmosphere with cafes and restaurants, head to the Place Saint-Sauveur. This pretty square is the perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely lunch or light refreshment.
