Set off from Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport and you’re just a 10-minute drive from Hoedspruit itself, which offers a host of attractions as well as being surrounded by the world’s largest privately-owned conservation area.

A trip to Hoedspruit offers a unique chance to enjoy incredible scenery and wildlife encounters. Start with a day at Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre – home to injured and abandoned wildlife. Expect to see animals such as lions, eagles and cheetahs.

Khamai Reptile Park, located just outside the town (between Hoedspruit and the Strydom Tunnel) is another top attraction. The experienced guides will take you around and show you a selection of South Africa’s deadliest snakes, including black mambas and Mozambique spitting cobras. Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre is just a 20-minute drive from town via Klaserie Road and the R40. It focuses on the breeding and rehabilitation of endangered, rare or vulnerable animals and is located on the Kapama Private Game Reserve. A variety of tour types are available, which will enable you to spot animals such as rhinos, cheetahs, lions and wild dogs.

Alternatively, spend a few hours at the beautiful Klaserie Waterfalls, located behind Hoedspruit along the Drakensberg Range. The falls are in a secluded private area and visitors must book in advance.
